METAL
PRETREATMENTS
General overview
For pre-treatments before
coating, Henkel Surface Technologies offers a full range of
products that significantly improve the adhesion properties of
organic coatings and that ensure extremely good protection against
corrosion. The entire process can be described by the following
process steps: cleaning, activating, phosphating and post
rinsing/passivating.
Nano-ceramic technology (NT)
Bonderite NT is suitable for
surface pretreatment for all conventional powder and wet paint
coatings. It can be applied by dipping or spraying and creates a
cohesive, inorganic, high-density layer incorporating
nanoparticles. Measurements have shown that the nanoceramic
coating delivers markedly better corrosion protection and paint
adhesion than iron phosphating
Zinc
phosphate
Zinc phosphate layers are
generated on steel, zinc, aluminum and magnesium by means of acid
phosphate solutions, sometimes containing fluoride additives, in
spray or immersion applications. The formation of the zinc
phosphate layer can be increased with the use of our accelerator
products.
Iron
phosphate
Henkel Surface Technologies
offers a wide range of special products for the surface treatment
of steel, cast iron, aluminum and galvanized substrates.
Passivation
/ Post Rinse
Chromium-free, as well as, chrome
containing post rinse / passivation products are used to seal the
phosphate coating.
Conversion
Coatings
Prior to top coating, the
metallic
surfaces have to be pre-treated with an appropriate conversion
layer. This provides the substrate with an anticorrosive layer
that acts, at the same time, as an adhesion promoter for organic
coatings. The specialized products from Henkel Surface
Technologies ensure that the parts have a high quality and long
lasting finish.
We supply a two-component process
for the green chromating of aluminum; absolutely safe in
food-manufacturing processes as well as Yellow chromating powder
compounds that are particularly suitable for treatments as per MIL
C 81706. Chromium-free process systems are also available.
Manganese
phosphate coating for wear reduction
Products for the treatment of
iron and steel, for various applications, with excellent friction
and abrasion reducing properties i.e. in machinery and motor
parts. Our manganese-iron phosphate layers improve lubrication and
free running properties of components in machinery and motors.
Decorative
Coatings
A black oxide coating can be
applied to iron and steel components to provide a durable and
attractive finish and is a simpler process than the traditional
"blackening" originally used by gunsmiths.
Paint
Strippers
A range of highly effective paint
strippers allow re-work of products that have been painted or
powder coated.
